During designjunction UAL’s Central Saint Martins Product and Industrial Design programme will be exploring the question: What’s The Future of Product and Industrial Design Education? The recipients of the Queens Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education awarded for contribution to the UK’s creative economy will be holding a bar room-style debate and live studio project. The event will offer a probing discussion around what design education needs to be in order for the discipline to remain potent and relevant in the face of accelerating technological, social, demographic and economic flux. The debate will be led by 7-8 provocateurs from the industry, education and public sector. Each brings a particular position to the discussion, representing a spectrum of perspectives to open up a broad discussion. A team of CSM Industrial Design Graduates will capture insights from the debate and themes will be visualised in situ. Over the duration of Design Junction these graduates will work on-site in an open studio exploring and developing the themes emerging into proposals for implementation. The results of this studio project will be presented to an open audience on Sunday afternoon.
